  2. I chose the non-fiction book CHINESE CINDERELLA, by Adeline Yen Mah, because I have never heard of it before. I want to challenge myself with a new book that I am not familiar with. I am expecting to learn about a young child that was either given up for adoption, or thrown out of the house at a young age. While reading this book, I will try to get a picture of what is going and try to visualize myself in her shoes. This book does not necessarily have any relevance to my life, however, learning and hearing about foster kids and their stories interests me.

  10. The book I am reading is 1776 by David McCullough. I chose this particular title, because the American Revolutionary war is one of my favorite history times. I have heard spectacular things about 1776 and finally get a chance to read the book. I am hoping to learn more about the war and some of the people that were involved in it. I think it is a very important part of our history and should be taught to everyone. It is relevant to everyone in the United States of America as this is our past and is the start of our independence. I feel that every true citizen should want to know about our history.

  11. I chose to read Legend by Eric Blehm because I thoroughly enjoy reading novels about military missions and the brave men and women who carried them out. I am expecting to think deeply about never giving up and how the bond formed through adversity can push someone to risk their lives for what they believe is right. This topic is important because it shows that no matter how tough the circumstances, one, through sheer mental toughness can accomplish anything.

  13. The book I chose is called, The Man Who Could Not Kill Enough by Anne E. Schwartz. I didn’t have a reason to choose this novel I really just grabbed a book to have one hope I can find a more interesting book in the next day or two. If I stick with this book I expect to learn about the atrocities committed by Jeffery Dahmer. This topic is not important to me because I don’t really want to know what he did. And I really don’t know why it would be important to anyone else.

  15. The book I chose to read is called Bootleg: Murder, Moonshine, and the lawless years of prohibition. It was written by a woman named Karen Blumenthal in 2011. This nonfiction book caught my eye because crime excites me. I enjoy reading about criminals in older time periods, and I hope to learn about Al Capone, making moonshine illegally, and what the authorities did to control the alcohol. I believe this topic is relevant to everyone due to the fact that the prohibition is no longer taking place, and also because both amendments that started and ended the prohibition exist.

I expect to learn a lot about the Alamo and how it unfolded by reading this book. This battle is relevant to me because it is U.S. history. Part of current day Texas may not be included in the United States today if these men did not hold off the Mexican Army for a few extra days. Many brave men died during this battle fighting for their freedom. I hope to be able to learn a lot about these men and the Alamo by reading this novel.

  22. I am currently reading Hawaii's Best Spooky Tales from Carroll and its about true ghost stories in Hawaii. I have Chosen this book for the fact that it was a non-fiction story. I hope I will learn about Hawaii and the ghost stories that surround the entirety of Hawaii, from the main island to the small individual islands that make up the state of Hawaii. I have always believed in something after death, like becoming a supernatural being with limited reaction done to the living world.

  23. I am reading The Pregnancy Project by Gaby Rodriguez. At first glance, I looked at the book and wondered why someone would write a book about a pregnancy project because it reminded me of the term pregnancy pact and I figured it was about the same concept. When reading the back, however, I learned that the novel was about a girl who faked her pregnancy as a social experiment. I thought that it was very intriguing and wanted to know what her results where. I thought it was very brave of her and also wanted to learn about the impact that the project had on Gaby herself. It is not a very relatable topic for me, since I have never faked a pregnancy. However, I also am put under pressure from my peers because I am a teenage girl which causes a lot of problems for me and I assume Gaby encountered some of the same problems I have.

  24. I am reading Night by Elie Weisel. this book talks about the Holocaust and the Aushwitz concentration camps. I have read this book once before, but I wanted to read it again. Elie is telling the story of his life how he survived the concentration camp, but watched his family get murdered. He talks about the infants burning in the ditches. he talks about the abuse he got from the leader of the camp. this book has meaning to me because these things really did happen. Elie really lived through this and the camps were real. I couldn't imagine having to live through something like this and hearing about it from someone that did live through it is heartbreaking because we think we have a tough/hard life today, but we really don't understand how hard life can really be for someone who has lived through this. I think others should read it because then they would understand how hard life was back then. and it gives more insight on cruel some people can really be.
